# Doctor: Per-agent memory directory

`memory:` in agent frontmatter writes `.claude/agent-memory/NAME/MEMORY.md`.
Category 4's graph check and the auto-memory index do not look here.
Run `scripts/check-agent-memory.sh`.

| Check | Fires when |
|---|---|
| Orphan | directory name matches no `name:` in the agents directory |
| Stale | `MEMORY.md` is older than `--stale-days` (default 30) and the activity file says that agent ran after the write. No activity file, no stale finding. An idle agent is not stale. |
| Size | `MEMORY.md` is at or over 150 lines. Spawn injection keeps about the first 200 lines and drops the rest with no error. |
| Secret | a token-shaped string, a private-key header, `password=`, an email, or an SSN-shaped number under the tree |

Activity rows are `name<TAB>unix-epoch`. Exit 0 is clean. Exit 1 prints `ORPHAN`, `STALE`, `SIZE`, or `SECRET` lines. Pass `--now` in tests so the clock is fixed.
